Lhota Gets Libertarian Line; Declines To Accept Nomiantion

Republican Joe Lhota, who is vying the republican nomination for mayor, got some colorful add to his campaign with the nomination of the Libertarian party, running as a slot alongside "Manhattan Madam" Kristin Davis who dropped out of the race to run for comptroller.

“Joe Lhota did not seek the Libertarian line and he will not accept it," spox Susan Del Percio emailed the Daily News this morning in response. "While he cannot stop this group from circulating petitions with his name, he will decline the nomination at the earliest possible time under state election law.”

Ms. Davis, who personally nominated Lhota after deciding she'd rather run for comptroller against Scott Stringer, told Celeste Katz she was under the impression that Lhota would have been happy to accept the nomination. "I am not sure what happened and this is contradictory to what we were told," Davis emailed Celeste. "I would hope that his campaign would re-consider their position since having a second party line is in their best interest and gives them a better shot at winning."

Roger Stone rebuffed Lhota campaign's dismissal. "I continue to believe Joe Lhota is the best man for Mayor. I am disappointed that several documentable affirmations from his staff that he would accept the endorsement of the LP are now being denied."

Libertarians will collect the signatures and Lhota can refuse the line if he likes, said Stone.

  1. I am sure Lhota would be "happy" to have it both ways... Grab an extra line, while insisting "They did it, not me".

Meanwhile, Lhota himself has been conspicuously silent... ALL I can find on the matter is copying of Katz' I'm-saying-someone-said-he-said story.
