On a live radio broadcast with AM970 radio hosts Curtis Sliwa and Jeffrey Lichtan, Republican mayoral candidate John Catsimatidis seemed to suggest that the NYD should establish its own version of the CIA to monitor and investigate radical Islamist groups in New York City.
Radio host Jeffrey Lichtan, who's an criminal defense lawyer, asked Mr. Catsimatiidis, if there is anything specific he would add to what is existing right now in dealing with Radical Islam. "Would you expand the atrtempts to investigate radical Islamists at the places that they worship, at the schools they are attending right now in our great city?" Lichtan asked.
To which Mr. Catsimatidis first acknowledged the NYPD's tactics to keep NYC safe. "Ray Kelly also does what I think other cities don't do. He has his own squad of people that double check the FBI and the CIA in different cities in the world. Checking on various threats," he said. "It's always good to have a double check. We have been safe since 9/11 and NY has to give credit to Ray Kelly. I think we have to do whatever is needed to keep New York safe"
Responding specifically to Mr. Lichtan's question, Mr Catsimatidis added: "Well, you know the CIA does their job. And I believe that Ray Kelly should have his own version of CIA." Adding that he would give the NYPD as much power needed to investigate Radical Islam at its source, and the ability to monitor extremists in Mosques or any other religious institutions. "If the Boston Police were doing their job, maybe we would of had a lot more people alive in Boston and a lot less people dead," he said.

Cats may not be the brightest bulb running for mayor but he is likely the richest. Cats made his billions parlaying Gristedes into an overpriced chain that was fined over and over again for selling tainted meat. Cats even had a trick to make rotting veggies look fresh. Not my choice for mayor.
