Thompson Lands Major Latino Endorsement

Failing so far to have an impact on the race as a minority candidate, mayoral hopeful Bill Thompson landed a major Latino endorsement  by U.S. Rep. Jose Serrano and his son, state Sen. Jose Serrano.

At a press conference Thursday, Congressman Jose E. Serrano, who was joined by his son, State Sen. Jose M. Serrano, praised Thompson as a "coalition builder" who can reach out to the Bronx's large Hispanic population.

“Billy Thompson is a coalition builder and he is a person who fully understands this city,” Mr. Serrano Sr. declared. “We support him because he knows that we also have the kind of respect in our community, where starting this afternoon, many people will begin to understand that–maybe, perhaps and surely–this is the candidacy for our community.”

Congressman Serrano jokingly referred to as "Guillermo William Billy Thompson"- the Spanish equivalent of William , the Daily News and WSJ report.

The Serranos endorsement may not deal a blog to either Ms. Quinn or Mr. de Blasio's campaign, since they also rolled out Hispanic endorsement. it could definitely effect Rev. Erick Salgado, who's the only Latino candidate in the Democratic primary, to get a large chunk of the Hispanic votes his candidacy largely relies on.
