Democratic mayoral candidate, Rev. Erick Salgado, who is hoping to assemble a coalition of minority groups and multiracial communities together in support of his candidacy for Mayor, uploaded a recording of an interview he conducted Feb. 7th with 'Russian media Mogul' -as describes in a NY Times profile - Gregory Davidzon.
The interview, that was conducted in English and translated in Russian back and forth was about the issues concerning Russian voters, which like other issue concerning voters is: Israel. Given the fact that NYC serves as the home for a majority of Jews outside the Jewish Homeland. "As a Latin evangelical, we have been pro-Israel a hundred percent," he said. Adding that his church is very heavily supportive of Israel.
Salgado addressed the Brooklyn College BDS event controversy at the beginning of the interview. "To learn that an educational college, like Brooklyn College, is a sponsor of such a forum, is unbelievable and unacceptable," he said. "As a candidate You have my commitment that if elected, I will not tolerate any official college host a forum like this."
"As a Christian I cannot accept that [Hate and division against Israel]. As a person, I cannot accept that, and as Mayor, I will definitely not accept such behavior," he added.
"It's a shame to accept this behavior in a college that is in the heart of Brooklyn, where we have the biggest Jewish Orthodox community," Salgado went on to address the issue. "Such a forum could ignite more hate against the people of Israel, and here in Brooklyn as well. Therefore, it's dangerous to let this forum take place."
Taking a shot at Bloomberg, who stood up for the right of sponsoring such an anti-Israel forum, Salgado questioned his support for Israel, when faced with such a controversial issue. "The only way we can control this issue, is by voting and electing people that are a friend of Israel and people that understand the necessity of different communities," he said is the solution.
Saying he supports only traditional values, Salgado also expressed his support for school choice, in the form of a tax credit.
Salgado also said he plans to remove parking ticket penalties from the City budget. The city, he said, is always looking to raise revenue in the same places.
Without providing budget details, Salgado proposed to eliminate/remove the quarter muni-meters for parking that grants the traffic officer a reason to ticket when the purpose of ticketing should be to punish those who violate the law, not as a source of revenue.
It's always gratifying to see the evolution of Christian evangelism away from efforts at conversion and toward respectful support.
